Travelling with family? We offer child seats to keep your little ones safe and sound throughout the journey. Well-behaved pets are welcome too. Explore the wonders of Latvia in the best possible way—by car!
Renting a car is the easiest way to visit the forests, wetlands, and impressive seaside of Latvia. The country is rather small, enabling you to drive from its capital, Riga, to even the most remote sights within a few hours.
Riga International Airport (RIX) is located about 10 kilometres southwest of the city centre of Riga.
The traffic in and around Riga is mostly manageable. However, during rush hours, between 7 and 9am and 5 and 7pm, traffic jams are common, especially near bridges across the Daugava River. To save time, it's advisable to avoid driving during these periods.
A mid-size car is an excellent choice for navigating urban areas in Riga. For road trips within Latvia or visits to beaches near Riga, we recommend renting an SUV or a larger car for additional comfort. If you're planning to rent a car in Riga during the winter months, a four-wheel drive is advisable for enhanced safety. We'll ensure your vehicle is equipped with the required winter tyres and equipment.
In urban areas across Latvia, the speed limit is typically 50 km/h. On public roads, the limit is usually 90 km/h, while on high-speed roads, the maximum allowed speed is 100 km/h. These limits are reduced during icy or snowy conditions.
